“Kaal Ratri” (An Inauspicious Night) is a film that revolves around the victimization of a young woman from a poor economic background. When she is being gang-raped and is about to be killed by her acquaintances, she is saved by the protagonist, Soumitra Chatterjee, who plays a humble school headmaster. The story unfolds to reveal the “real issues” behind the plot, exploring how silence, honesty, and powerlessness have their own unique language.
